How to Make Sure Your Bridesmaids Enjoy Your Wedding as Much as You Will

Asking your nearest and dearest to be an integral part of your wedding is a very special moment. Unfortunately, not all bridesmaids end up enjoying their time in this role. In fact, many friendships have ended between brides and bridesmaids following weddings – let’s make sure this doesn’t happen to you.

Here are a few things to be aware of as you plan your big day with the help of your bridal team.

• Get Clear on Expectations. How involved do you want your bridesmaids to be? Do you just need them to show up on the day looking their best, or do you expect them to help you every step of the way? To keep the peace, it’s important to sit down and let your bridesmaids know how you would like them to be involved. Don’t forget to be reasonable and remember that your wedding team does have a life outside of your wedding.
• Fill Them in On the Details. If you want your bridesmaids to be involved in your big day, let them in on the details and ask for their opinions. Basically, you want to give them reasons to get excited about your day by including them, even if it’s in small ways. Letting them in on the itinerary for the day is a must!
• Talk About Money. If you’re planning to ask your bridesmaids to pay for anything, discuss this upfront. Whether it’s dresses, their hair, or the bridal shower, ask them whether they would be willing to contribute to any costs – don’t assume!
• Let Them Be Individuals. While it’s perfectly fine to ask your bridesmaids to dress in certain colors or wear a particular type of dress, it’s still important to let them embrace their own styles and provide some input. For example, don’t force someone to wear a dress that would make them feel uncomfortable or grow out their hair so that everyone can have the same hairstyle.
• Show the Love. Your bridesmaids have agreed to be a part of your wedding day because they love you, so don’t forget to show them how much you appreciate them before, on, and after your big day.
