I am so excited to be sharing another Vendor Feature on the blog today! If you haven’t seen them before I usually feature a vendor at least once a month that is one of my favorite people in the industry in their field and have worked extensively with them previously. And I HIGHLY recommend these amazing vendors!
Today I am featuring one of my favorite Seattle & Tacoma custom signage and wall art maker, Nicolette’s Creations. I have known Nicki for most of my life and it has been so amazing to see her business grow. Nicki has always been artistic and even made a custom drawing of me and my husband as a wedding gift. She also did my college senior photos! She does custom wall art for your home or event using wood stretched canvas, paint and vinyl to create inspirational and unique signs for your home or for gifts. For birthdays, anniversaries, wedding gifts, or just because. Each sign is made to order and can be customized for you.
I had the honor of getting to document some behind the scenes work for Nicki to use for her business and I also have many of her pieces hanging on my own walls!

How long have you been in business?
Since September 2013.
Where are you located?
Kent, Washington.
How did your business get started?
I am artsy by nature and my sister asked me to make some stuff for her and then suggested I sell it on Etsy and I figured why not. And it has grown from there!
Who is your ideal client?
Someone who is looking for a special sign for a gift or decoration. I especially love when they tell me their story and why they are ordering it. To honor someone who passed away, to symbolize something special between them and their loved ones, anniversaries, weddings, gifts all so fun.
Describe the process of what it looks like to work with you.
There are 2 options. You order exactly what is in my shop and can customize the colors and words from those. Or you can order a completely custom canvas. And either way I work with each one via email, sending mock ups along the way to make sure they are getting exactly what they imagined. And then I make them their awesome canvas, send them another email with tracking information and then mail it off.
What’s the biggest trend you are seeing in wedding signage?
Custom themed signs: Disney love, bible verses, movie or book quotes for guest book tables or reception decorations or great shower or wedding gifts. Right now my store is blowing up with Disney Love canvases with custom names and wedding dates at the bottom.
What do you tell brides trying to save money by making their own signage?
Getting clean beautiful signs with even words in a consistent font would be much easier and less stressful if you turn to a professional.
What is your favorite part of your business?
Working with people to make a custom piece they love and then hearing about how much it is loved! Like this review I got recently: “Nicolette created the most beautiful and meaningful piece for me. My husband’s father passed away unexpectedly and tragically in September of 2015. He had written a song and Nicolette created a canvas for me with the lyrics to his song. She not only worked closely with my request but she also was able to capture the way he would have designed it himself with the way she played with the fonts. She really captured his spirit. The canvas arrived quickly and I was blown away when I saw it in person. It was absolutely perfect! However, I noticed a mistake that I had made when I gave her the lyrics, and I explained this to her and she sent me a repair kit and I was able to fix the mistake that I had made. I will never forget the look on my husbands face when I gave him the piece. I’d buy again from her in a heartbeat.”
What makes your services unique?
The custom aspect and personal touch. Each sign is custom made. And each design is offered in multiple sizes offering a wide variety of options to fit a space. A tiny piece in pink to fit in the midst of a photo wall at home. Or A giant piece in black and white to fill an entire wall. The possibilities are endless. Each customer gets my help with the design of their order. My experience and graphic design degree all help with that.
Who are some of your favorite vendors?
Not sure how to answer that. For what I do or just in life in general? Photography: you! Duh Calligraphy: My friend Leah McClain does amazing work for weddings, signs and invitations and is just starting out
Where do you see your business going in the next 5 years?
I hope it just keeps growing and allows me to pull in family and friends to help me with the work as it does. But I want it to still be accessible and special for each order no matter the growth we see in 5 years. Maybe I will just be able to afford a studio to work out of instead of using any free corner I can find at home to get them all done.
And yes, this is a sign that Nicki made me (Rebecca) that hangs in my bedroom. ;-)
