Seattle is a beautiful city tucked along the Pacific Coast in the heart of the Northwest. It offers a variety of scenic views to choose from like wooded forests, islands, lakes, urban cities scenes and layers upon layers of mountains which make for a never-ending list of perfect wedding photography backdrops. The Seattle engagement session scene is never-ending and options are limitless.
The Seattle area also never has a bad season for engagement photos. Our Winters are mild, although a tad rainy. Our Summers are also mild but warm enough for an outdoor engagement session. And Spring and Fall are always to die for with beautiful colors.
Finding the right Seattle wedding venue takes a lot of time and research and can often be one of the hardest parts of planning a wedding. You need to make sure that your venue ticks all the right boxes before you make a final decision. Your Seattle venue will influence your budget as well as the atmosphere on the day so before you sign on the dotted line, below are three important things to consider before you decide on your wedding venue.
Each season in the Pacific Northwest offers a beautiful different backdrop but do note that the number of locations that are available for shooting at shrink during the winter. The best time for engagement photos is June-October to avoid snow and rain.

Hey friends, I'm Sydney, the gal behind the lens (and your new best friend.) I am a proud member of the LGBTQIA community and am committed to celebrating the diversity of all couples and families in my lifestyle approach to shooting. I am going on 8 years shooting intentionally and 5 years professionally, but have held a camera in my hand as long as I can remember.
Documenting life's fleeting moments is in my DNA (ask me about that later!) I'm a a true PNW girl with a love for outdoor adventure and recreation. I'm also easily swayed by coffee, wine, cats, dogs, icecream, and kids! If you said, "yes, me too!" to any of those we'll get along just fine!
I so look forward to meeting you and capturing your most natural laughs and quiet emotive moments. More than anything, I want you to TRULY see yourself in your images and utter the words, "Yes, this is us."
Jared is an exceptional photographer/storyteller who captures the love and joy in every couple.
With a background in portraiture, event photography and the Seattle fashion scene, Jared ventured into weddings. His enthusiasm shows through in his work. He enjoys the challenge of a fast-paced wedding day and handles difficult situations with ease. Jared's favorite thing about photographing weddings (aside from cake) is doing what he loves, having a VIP front-row seat to each couple's special day, and knowing he’s helping create memories that will last for generations.
When not creating wedding memories he's involved in the Seattle fashion scene, photographing runway shows and other fashion events. He’s photographed dozens of weddings at some of the most gorgeous venues in the Puget Sound region.
Hey there! I’m Jannicka! I’m a lifestyle photographer, military wife, and homeschool mom.
I grew up in the PNW but have moved all over the country with my husband and two kids over the years—from Georgia to Colorado to Kansas to Virginia … oh, and we just spent three amazing years in Alaska! Now we live in small town Washington with our two Doodle dogs and way too many houseplants. I love Jesus, plants, hiking, thrifting, and spending time with my family. My favorite color is mustard yellow, my favorite animal is the moose, and my favorite food is tacos.
I’ve been doing photography for almost 10 years now and I absolutely love it! My approach is more candid and real, focusing on genuine emotions and connections over perfect poses. I’m super chill and try to make every session fun (which means I may talk you ear off… hope you don’t mind!). I not only want to photograph all the amazing things that happen on your wedding day, but I also want to capture all the emotions you feel on your wedding day, too. I want you to be able to look back and remember the big moments as well as those small moments, too. I hope your photos tell the world about your life, your love, and your story.
My name is Vannessa and I’ve had the extreme honor of documenting weddings for the last decade. I love creating a story of your day beginning with the beautiful details you so intentionally chose. Being there with you and your loved ones to capture the fun moments and the quiet in between moments is what draws me to love weddings as much as I do.
As your wedding photographer I am there for you in every way so that you can be fully present in every moment of your day! When I’m not behind the camera, I love spending time with my daughter, finding new hiking trails in our beautiful state and I am obsessed with football (go Hawks!).
Julia has been photographing weddings since 2010, and over the past decade has been honored to witness love stories of all shapes and sizes come together in front of her camera. No two journeys to “we do” look the same, and the diversity of her couples is part of what Julia loves about this job most of all. As an enneagram 3 and INFJ, storytelling is what drew her to weddings, and having the chance to serve couples by creating an inclusive space for people of all backgrounds within the industry is what has kept her here. She is based in Seattle where she lives with her husband and their four legged crew, and has a newfound passion for houseplants.
My name is Lyssa, and I am an inclusive elopement and wedding photographer. I was born and raised in the beautiful PNW, and I love getting to take photographs in the place I call home. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Art and Animation from DigiPen Institute of Technology and it was while attending college I fell in love with photography. I have a shooting style somewhere between photojournalism and fine art.
When I am not third wheeling it with my couples or editing beautiful photos with my cat Simba snuggled up on my lap, I am out exploring the surrounding scenic views to add to my never-ending list of perfect backdrops. I really care about your vision and love going outside the box, my goal is to capture photographs that reflect you as a couple and all the little moments. I am down to hike a mountain, help with a themed shoot, or recreate your favorite Pinterest posts!

Engagement sessions add so much to the story of who you are as a couple right now, and they’re an ideal way to become more comfortable in front of my lens before your wedding day. Your engagement session can be as simple as a stroll through your favorite park, an intimate meal at your favorite cafe, or even a romantic return to where he proposed - anything you can imagine to share the imagery of your personal love story.
Formal or informal, images from your engagement session are beautiful additions to your wedding album, and also make a wonderful guestbook. They help to craft the whole story, and can even be used for save-the-date cards, invitations or thank you cards. After booking our couples get a engagement style guide to help planning their outfits as well as a wedding resource guide that contains lots of tips, tricks and location ideas.

When you book your Seattle Wedding Venue is totally dependant on you and your wedding! There are many factors that can encourage you to book sooner such as guest list size, venue popularity and if you are looking at a peak summer Saturday. But you can never book your venue too early! Most of our inquiries start to come in around 12 months before a peak wedding date. People really on top of it with a long engagement will book 18 months out. And people looking at Friday or Sunday's that are not in the summer can sometimes get away with 6 months out.
Where should you take your Seattle Wedding Photos? Well that is totally up to you!! I love recommending beautiful locations to shoot around Washington and specifically if you have a type of location you prefer (woods, beach, city...etc). But ideally, you want to choose a Seattle Wedding Venue with an aesthetic you love and makes you want to have all of your wedding photos at that location. Or you want to take your photos at a nearby location that works well with your timeline and transportation.
Best case scenario, you would want to get ready at your Seattle Wedding Venue. But if your timeframe does not allow it, or they do not provide a space for getting ready, then you would want to find a nearby location (ideally under 30 minutes away) like a hotel or AirBnB. Often you can find a hair salon close by as well to have your hair and makeup done at and put your final touches on at your Seattle Wedding Venue's space.
What type of transportation should you plan for your Seattle Wedding Photography? Many factors come into play like where exactly in the Seattle area are we taking photos and what does your wedding budget look like. I highly recommend having a hired driver for Downtown Seattle photos since parking is expensive and hard to come by and it can take a strain on your timeline to wait for an Uber. Otherwise for short little drives or just one stop an Uber can be a great option. Or even just a friend who can escort you around so you don't have to take the time to find parking can be a great option!
Should you have a separate Seattle Ceremony Venue and Reception Venue? Most of the time these days if we have separate locations it is due to religious beliefs and wanting a traditional ceremony inside their home church. And then the reception follows at a Seattle Wedding Reception Venue that has the aesthetic they want for their wedding day. But maybe your wedding day vision has a combination of looks and feels - thats totally okay! Just plan extra buffer time into your day accordingly to make it happen and try to choose locations within 30 minutes of each other.
Is it better to have your Seattle Wedding on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday? So many factors come into play for this but it definitely depends on you and your personal preferences! If you don't have a preference than I would ask your venue if they offer a discount for a Friday or Sunday as that can be one of the main reasons to choose one of those dates. Also, you would have a greater option for vendors as vendors are more quickly booked up on Saturdays!
Should you have an indoor or outdoor Seattle Wedding Reception? Great question! Seattle is known for its rain and it can be challenging to plan an outdoor wedding reception. However if you pick a peak summer date than the odds are in your favor! If you do choose an outdoor reception, we would definitely recommend to have an indoor or covered rain plan.
If your Seattle Wedding Venue can accommodate you having your wedding rehearsal there, then I highly recommend it! That way your wedding party and close family know exactly where to be and when!
Should you bring your photographer to your rehearsal? Most of the time it is not needed unless you simply want the photos as they've probably shot at your venue or one like it before. Or we always go scout out the venue an hour early before our start time if we have never been there before.
