Ways to Make Your Walk Down the Aisle a Little More Modern

Ways to Make Your Walk Down the Aisle a Little More Modern

Your walk down the aisle is so special and a moment you will forever remember, as will your spouse. Traditionally, a bride walks down the aisle with her father who gives her away. However, many brides are breaking tradition and doing things a little differently. If you want your moment in the spotlight to be a little more modern and different, here are a few suggestions.

  • Walk with mom. If your father is no longer around or you’re simply closer to your mother, why not walk down the aisle with her instead? If your mother has had an immense influence on your life, this is one of the best ways to honor her.
  • Include both parents. Some brides have such a tightknit family that they prefer to walk with both parents down the aisle. If this works for you, go right ahead. In fact, this is the norm in Jewish weddings.
  • Include both dads. Many of today’s families have gone through a divorce. If this is the case for you and you’re close to both your father and your stepfather, you could always have them both at your side during this special moment.
  • Choose an unconventional song. Who says you have to play traditional romantic songs as you walk down the aisle? If you want to make an entrance that’s all your own, choose a song that reflects your personality, relationship with your partner, or your unique culture.
  • Rope in your uncles. Many brides grow up with their uncles as the father figures in their lives. If one or all of your uncles were an integral part of your childhood and relationship, nothing should stop you from choosing them to walk you into your ceremony.
  • Include your siblings. Every family has a different dynamic and for many brides, their siblings were and still are their rocks. If your brother or sister is your everything, they’re the perfect choice for this important role.
  • Dress up your furry family member. If your pet is one of the most important members of your family and you really want to include them in your big day, this is one way to do just that. Adding a little bowtie or coat is the perfect way to get them to fit in with the ceremony.
  • Go it alone. And finally, there is always the option of walking yourself down the aisle. This is perfect for brides who are self-reliant and always have been, as well as those who don’t have a particularly close family. This is your wedding day and one moment when the spotlight will be solely on you, so do things your way.
